Plain-language summary

Use, change, and share the original material of The Mirrored Realms freely, also commercially, as long as you give credit. Rules from the SRD 5.2.1, third-party plugins, and recommended music keep their own terms. The project is independent and not made or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.

01 / Scope

The archive and this page.

These terms apply to The Mirrored Realms: the Obsidian vault in the GitHub repository ShadowOkami4/Mirrorgate with its notes, rules, adventures, and books, and to this project website.

They summarise the README and NOTICE of the repository. If this page and the LICENSE file in the repository ever disagree, the LICENSE file decides.

02 / Licence

CC BY 4.0 for original material.

Except where stated otherwise, original material created for The Mirrored Realms may be copied, adapted, redistributed, published, and used commercially, as long as you give appropriate credit.

  • Original Mirrored Realms material (text, rules, maps, and contributed artwork): CC BY 4.0.
  • Material from the System Reference Document 5.2.1: CC BY 4.0, by Wizards of the Coast LLC.
  • Obsidian plugins and themes in the vault: their own licences; Atlas VTT is licensed under the GNU AGPL.
  • Recommended music: not included; all rights remain with the rights holders.

The full licence text is available at creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0.

03 / Attribution

Credit in one line.

A ready-to-use attribution statement:

This work uses material from The Mirrored Realms (https://shadowokami.com/Mirrored_Realms), licensed under CC BY 4.0. Changes were made.
  • You may link to the GitHub repository instead of the website.
  • If you did not change the material, leave out “Changes were made.”
  • Crediting individual contributors, where their work is identified, is appreciated.

04 / System Reference Document 5.2.1

The rules foundation.

This work includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 (“SRD 5.2.1”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, available at creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.

The Mirrored Realms is designed to be compatible with fifth edition using the SRD 5.2.1 rules foundation.

05 / Independence and names

Compatible, not official.

The Mirrored Realms is an independent project by Okami. It is not published, endorsed, or approved by Wizards of the Coast. Dungeons & Dragons and D&D are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC and are named here only to describe compatibility.

The project’s own name

CC BY 4.0 covers the material, not names or logos. You may name The Mirrored Realms to credit it and to say that your work is based on it or compatible with it. Do not present your own work as an official Mirrored Realms release, and do not suggest that Okami endorses it.

06 / Third-party material

Other people’s work keeps its own terms.

Software

Files supplied by Obsidian plugins, themes, or other third-party tools are not authored by The Mirrored Realms contributors and are not relicensed under the project licence. Their original licences and copyright notices continue to apply. This includes the Atlas VTT plugin by Fabian Urbanek (ByteMirror), licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, and any artwork it supplies, such as its starter tokens.

Music

The vault recommends music from other works for use at the table. No music is distributed with the project, and every recommended track remains the property of its composer and rights holders: Celeste (© Maddy Makes Games, music by Lena Raine), The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario (© Nintendo), and Professor Layton (© Level-5). Planned remixes of copyrighted music are not covered by the project licence and will only be published where permitted.

07 / Contributions

Your work stays yours, and it is credited.

Corrections, playtest reports, writing, mechanics, and artwork are welcome through GitHub issues and pull requests. By contributing original material, you agree to make it available under CC BY 4.0. You keep your authorship and are credited for accepted work.

  • Submit only material you created or have the right to release under CC BY 4.0.
  • Do not submit protected text, artwork, characters, or settings from games and fictional universes you do not control.
  • Accepting a contribution is at the project’s discretion; accepted material may be edited to fit the setting.

08 / Artwork

Made by people, credited by name.

The Mirrored Realms does not use AI-generated artwork. Every image in the project is made by a person, and artwork contributions must be created by the artist without generative AI.

  • Every accepted work credits its artist, with the credit and links the artist chooses.
  • Paid commissions are agreed in writing before any work begins: scope, schedule, price, attribution, and usage rights.
  • Payment never removes the artist’s right to be credited.

09 / At your table

Play it, stream it, change it.

You may run The Mirrored Realms at your table, stream or record your sessions, and publish actual plays, adventures, and supplements built on it, also commercially, with credit as described above.

Your version of Kagameru does not have to match the archive. The repository only defines what is canon for the project itself; at your table, your story decides.

10 / Early development

Unfinished, and provided as it is.

The Mirrored Realms is in early development. Lore, mechanics, names, maps, and planned releases may change during writing and playtesting, and rules material is marked as playtest drafts.

The material is offered as is, without warranties, as set out in section 5 of the CC BY 4.0 licence.

11 / Contact and changes

Questions are welcome.

For questions about these terms, permissions, or attribution, open an issue on GitHub or write to service@shadowokami.de.

These terms may be updated as the project grows. The current version and its effective date are always published on this page.
